Welcome to North Side Housing and Supportive Services!

North Side Housing and Supportive Services works to help people end their homelessness through housing and comprehensive supportive services. With your partnership, we are on track to help more than 500 people this year. We serve men and women who are homeless or formerly homeless.

Because homelessness is a complex issue, we provide a variety of programs to help our clients, including interim housing, permanent supportive housing, a day support services center, extensive employment services, health services, and other programs. Click on the links below to learn more about our services and how they help people in our community.

  • Interim Housing - A 72-bed program for men in the Uptown neighborhood that provides intensive case management, shelter, food, and many other services, with the goal of helping clients become permanently housed within 120 days.
  • Day Support Services Center - An outreach and engagement center in Uptown where anyone who is homeless can come for case management, mental health services, housing referrals, and many other services.
  • Permanent Supportive Housing - A housing-first program consisting of 155 grant-funded studio apartments or SRO units with case management and other services to help our clients remain stably housed.
  • Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) - A large employment program for veterans who are homeless, including direct job placement, training, and many other services.
  • Integrative Health Care - To provide for our clients’ physical and mental health care needs, we employ a nurse practitioner, mental health professionals, and a health care advocate.
  • Pathways - Our Pathways Street Program provides direct employment to our clients via street cleaning and beautification.

Department of Labor awards North Side Housing - Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) grant

June 27, 2013 - The U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service today announced the award of 121 grants to provide more than 14,000 veterans across the nation with job training, job placement, housing and other services. The grants were awarded through the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program.
“Military service members and their families have been asked to make tremendous sacrifices for this nation. Although homelessness among veterans has fallen, too many of our heroes cannot find jobs or homes,” said acting Secretary of Labor Seth D. Harris. “These grants will provide those who have served our nation with the means to find meaningful civilian employment and chart new directions for their lives.”
The HVRP grant will help homeless veterans reintegrate into society and the labor force while providing effective services aimed at addressing the complex challenges that homeless veterans often confront. The services provided by grantees will include job placement, on-the-job training, career counseling, life skills and money management mentoring, as well as help in finding housing.

North Side Housing partners with the Center for Housing and Health

Starting on March 1, 2013, North Side Housing and Supportive Services is proud to be partnering with the Center for Housing and Health through the Housing for Health SHP Project. The Housing for Health SHP Project will initially provide 15 units for males and females that are currently homeless. Participants for this program will be referred through the Central Referral System (CRS), which serves as a single point of access for Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) to connect the most vulnerable households with the appropriate housing and services.
